The American Folk Festival is a large-scale, three-day event. Held each year at the end of August in downtown Bangor, Maine, the Festival presents the music and dance from the many cultures that make up America today.
The Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race, held annually on the third weekend of April, is the largest paddling event in New England and one of the largest in the country. Hosted by the Bangor Dept. of Parks & Recreation, the 16.5 mile race begins in the Town of Kenduskeag and ends near the confluence of the Penobscot River in downtown Bangor.
During the summer, River City Cinema hosts outdoor movies in Pickering Square in Bangor. Past themes have included musicals and corny sci-fi. Bring chairs or blankets (and maybe bug spray). Free, but they pass a donation bucket. You can also purchase concession items.
Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor, Maine is an open air amphitheater constructed each summer inside Waterfront Park in Bangor, Maine. Waterfront Park is a 58 acre public park on the Banks of the historic Penobscot River in the heart of the downtown district.
