Mathematics and Statistics: Careers in Mathematics

Careers for the Math Major

Quantitative Researcher, Finance- Example for Citadel Investments. Requires a graduate degree, statistical knowledge is emphasized as well as programming language skills. 

Society of Actuaries-requires a separate entrance exam.

Marketing Research Analyst- Information from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. For math majors this field emphasizes statistics. 

Engineering Analyst requires project management, communication, math and engineering knowledge.

Cryptographer- develop algorithms, ciphers for security systems, mathematics and foreign language knowledge are both assets.   

Statistician- analyze data to impact a large number of real world decisions. 

Economist- may require additional education in economics but a background in mathematics is essential. 

Market Research Analyst - requires a strong background in mathematics and business. 

Employment Services for PhD mathematicians- from the American Mathematical Society. 

Mathematicians- the US Occupational Outlook handbook states that for the next 8 years the demand for mathematicians will grow 30% faster than average.
