Nexis is one of the largest databases ever conceived. It's vital to limit your search so you're not looking at parts of Nexis that you don't need. If you're looking for cases, I recommend these steps:
1. First, click on Advanced Search. Advanced doesn't means it's harder! It means you'll see more options for refining your search.
2. Then click on "Legal". That limits your search to the Legal section of Nexis.
3. Then click on Cases, and then you'll probably want to limit to the United States, depending on the assignment.
4. Your screen should look like this, and then you're ready for Case Research.
5. Searching for a word will make Nexis look anywhere at all in the documents. But you limit your search further by telling Nexis that you only want to search in a certain "field" like Core Terms.
