Chemistry: Safety Data

Safety Data

A Safety Data Sheet or SDS (formerly known as MSDS) provides information including:

  • the properties of each chemical
  • the physical, health, and environmental health hazards
  • protective measures
  • safety precautions for handling, storing, and transporting the chemical.

They also provide guidance for each specific chemical on:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • First aid procedures
  • Spill clean-up procedures

Start with MSDS/SDS Resources for more information on what a Safety Data Sheet is and how to use them effectively.
