Information Literacy Micro-Credential

What is the Information Literacy Micro-Credential?

The Information Literacy Micro-Credential is a badge you can earn through the University of Maine System.  It is a certification you can add to your resume that shows employers you know how to find and evaluate information--in other words, that you have strong information literacy skills.  There are three levels of badges, and once you've completed them all, you will earn an additional badge showing that you've completed the entire sequence.

For more information about what micro-credentials are and why they are important, please take a look at the University of Maine System Micro-Credentials home page.

How can I earn it?

You can sign up to begin working on the Information Literacy Micro-Credential in just a handful of steps.

  1. First, log into the UMaine portal.
  2. Then visit the Brightspace site for the Information Literacy Micro-Credential and click on "Enroll in Course."
  3. Once in the course, go to the Welcome section and read the instructions there.
  4. Next, click on "Enroll in your campus group" and select "The University of Maine" as your group.
  5. Once you've selected your campus, you can begin work on Level 1!

Anytime you finish a badge, be sure to contact the librarian listed from your campus.  They will verify that you've completed the work for that level, will notify the University of Maine System that you've completed a badge, and will give you access to the next badge in the sequence.  For more information about what work is required at each level, click on the level you want to find out about in the toolbar on the left side of the page.
