The Research & Instruction department is located on the first floor of Fogler Library, in the Information Commons. We provide assistance through chat and email, as well as individual consultations. You can find the hours listed here and subject librarian contacts listed here.
Librarians in the department have subject expertise in the humanities, the social sciences, engineering, and the natural, health, and physical sciences. The subject librarians work to develop our collections in their specialized areas, as well as provide individual and course-related instruction in identifying and using appropriate information resources.
Every department has a subject librarian, who is available for one-to-one, or small group, research assistance. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to make appointments with their subject librarians. We look forward to working with you!
Faculty can contact their subject librarian to provide instruction for the particular research needs of their classes. This can be an in-person class or Zoom-based, and/or include a tailored Web-based course guide. Below is a link to the Course Guides currently in use. Please contact your Subject Librarian if you'd like to arrange for library instruction. If you are teaching a general course, and would like an information literacy component, contact Nancy Lewis.
We have developed First Year Student Information Literacy Guidelines, and are happy to work with instructors to help achieve these goals.
If you are interested in Citation Management tools, we have a guide to assist. You may also contact librarian John Hutchinson.
Also of interest, Amber Gray is the campus point person for the Turnitin function available to instructors through Brightspace.
We have several guides highlighting Fogler resources on diverse population groups:
Reference Services also coordinates a variety of events designed to engage the campus community with information resources.
